In the summer of 2016 Big Ideas Company worked with the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851.
Prince Albert charged the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851 with supporting and developing British design and engineering as a legacy of the Great Exhibition.
In a new departure, Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851 teamed up with BBC World Service in 2016.
Together, they held a special event at the Victoria and Albert Museum bringing together three of the world’s most celebrated engineers who shared their work and answered questions from the audience. Speakers included Bill Baker, the chief engineer of the Burj Khalifa – the world’s tallest skyscraper; Michel Virlogeux, the chief engineer of the Millau Viaduct – the world’s tallest bridge; Ilya Espino de Marotta, the chief engineer of one of the biggest engineering projects on the planet – the expansion of the Panama Canal.
The programme was broadcast around the world. You can listen to The Engineers here.
Big Ideas was responsible for the paper programme for the event and were excited to be involved in this innovative event.
